Myth #7: “The game scenario has to be rooted in our company’s reality.”

Good training games don’t have to be realistic. Actually, it’s way better when they drop players into a fantasy world far away from their day-to-day grind. A few reasons for this:

  • Ditches autopilot: People stop repeating the same old habits that might not even work well. It pushes them to find creative, fresh solutions.
  • Stops the backseat driving: Employees won’t nitpick over tiny details or complain about specific technical numbers. They actually focus on interpersonal skills.
  • Amps up the fun: Leaving reality behind makes people way more emotionally invested and excited to play.
The trick—and what the best games do—is hiding real business takeaways right inside that fantasy world.
